Coppatrek - The Indian Himalayas

Trekking the Indian Himalayas for Coppafeel breast cancer charity. 

It’s hard to put the last 10 days into words. It’s been an absolute privilege to be part of something so special - a truly incredible life affirming, and humbling experience. 

The calmness of the monks, the beautiful monasteries, the breathtaking views of the mountains, the kindness from the locals and the smiles from the children passing us on their way to school. Camping in the heart of the mountains, we embraced the magic of India - including huge spiders, cold showers and a much needed digital detox. Finishing the trek with ticking off a bucket list visit to the Taj Mahal, experiencing a night sleeper train and seeing the colours and chaos of Delhi. 

This was the furthest I’ve ever been out of my comfort zone, pushed to pure exhaustion and having to dig deep to keep running on reserves with little time to recharge between the sunrise to sunset long days of trekking. Surrounded by the most inspiring and selfless humans that you could ever meet. Each sharing our own stories of being through or affected by breast cancer, our team soon became like family as we grew a bond that will last a lifetime. With many trekkers still in the depths of treatment, taking chemo pills or waiting for surgeries not letting that stop them trek almost 100km. It puts a lot of things in perspective! 

From that very first pep talk on the first night from our amazing team leader Sara Davies, that’s when the magic started and continued to grow as we were fuelled by our very own special ‘Pennergy' guide leader - she was always pushing us up that mountain when the going got tough! Together we laughed, cried, danced and trekked our way up the beautiful Himalayas. Reaching the top and letting the views bring us to tears - an emotional release after everything we’d been battling through to get there. 

The support and generosity has been overwhelming, as I raised £6512 and between us as a collective we have raised over a whoppin’ £725k! A new record for Coppafeel.
